  • In September, 23 Community Connections host families travel to Kharkiv as guests of their former guests. On September 11, their celebration of the official opening of the American Center in Kharkiv was tempered by the simultaneous events in the U.S. The outpouring of love and care from the Kharkivites for the visiting Cincinnatians after the tragedy of September 11 further proved the close relationship between Cincinnati and Kharkiv.

  • On June 22, 165 friends of CKSCP gathered to celebrate ten years of friendship between Cincinnati and Kharkiv. Artwork reflecting the sister city relationship was on display before the dinner. A vice mayor of Kharkiv, Volodymyr Kiyko, and Roxanne Qualls, who was then Mayor of Cincinnati, contributed opening comments. Everyone enjoyed a Ukrainian-style meal. A local puppet team presented a collage of memories and stories to entertain the gathering.
  • Community Connections Director, Marilyn Braun, recognized in GLAMOUR Magazine as a Regional Finalist in the 2000 Saturn Women At Their Best Awards for her work on the Community Connections program and other projects in the community.
