Some examples of Medical exchanges sponsored by
CUP or CKSCP:
- Professor Emeritus from the Division of Immunology at the University
of Cincinnati Medical Center spends a week in Kharkiv giving seminars
and lectures on immunology, rheumatology, and HIV/AIDS, and visits
medical training facilities, hospitals, and clinics.
- A Cincinnatian travels to Kharkiv to work on the CDC-sponsored
IDD program including continuing efforts for the iodization of
table salt and beginning steps to fortify the flour with iron.
A Developmental Pediatrician and a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
from Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati travel
to Kharkiv for 13 days to conduct training at the Kharkiv Early
Intervention Institute.
- Dean of the Medical Faculty and Chair of the Pathological Physiology
Department of the Kharkiv State Medical University arrives in
Cincinnati for a six-month fellowship at the University of Cincinnati
College of Medicine through the ECFMG (Educational Commission
for Foreign Medical Graduates).
- Two Cincinnatians travel to Kharkiv as part of the Program Against
Micronutrient Malnutrition salt iodization program in cooperation
with the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University,
UNICEF, and the CDC.
- A CKSCP Board Member and Professor Emeritus at Children’s
Hospital Medical Center helps to coordinate the donation of funds
made by employees of the Children’s Hospital Medical Center
of Cincinnati for the purchase of medical supplies for a TB clinic
in Kharkiv. Supplies to be presented during 1999 Official Delegation
to Kharkiv lead by Mayor Roxanne Qualls.
- In response to water crisis in Kharkiv and outbreak of Hepatitis
A, CKSCP sends a sea container with over $90,000 worth of medical
supplies including IV set-ups and solutions to Kharkiv via MPRI
(a congressional agency.)
- Over $15,000 worth of diphtheria vaccine and antibiotic purchased
by CKSCP and shipped to Kharkiv in cooperation with Children of
Chernobyl and Congressional Wives Airlift.
- "The Great Jif and Jelly Airlift" - thanks to Procter
and Gamble, 400 cases of peanut butter, 300 cases of jelly and
enough bread for 100,00 sandwiches transported to Kharkiv. Also
taken were over $2000 worth wholesale antibiotics and medications.
